Well, Bush and his team are in a very awkward position. If we leave Iraq swiftly and completely, a vacuum will be created, which will destabilize Iraq and surrounding Arab countries. According to PHYSICS, you must release and substitute the pressure from all angles slowly and gradually to control the vaccum. Bush must put the pressure on the Iraqi Government and its army and at the same time must reduce the number of the troops slowly. We need more troops in Afghanistan to conquer the south side. If we increase our presence in Afghanistan, Al-Qaida will follow over there and release the pressure and attacks in Iraq. Terrorists (Al-Qaida) are not interested in attacking us at home because we are not on their agenda now. If you look at the average attacks on American interests since 1970, you will notice that the average attacks are between 5 to 7 years interval. So, Bush can't get the credit for not being attacked by these terrorists at home. He is only lucky as the average has not hit him yet. It is not our fault to be penalized as Americans just because the Iraqi government is so incompetent, its army is NOT trainable and the various leaders are totally corrupted. Hello Mr. Bush, you must understand this simple concept. The sectarians violence will not get worst than this and will not make any difference if we withdraw slowly. Increasing our troops as was suggested lately, will only increase the pressure. In this case, situation will get more fiasco as the pressure builds up, which will be impossible to contain.

How many insurgents have the military kept form leaving Iraq?
The military isn't only in Iraq - they are in over 100 countries monitoring terrorists and foreign governments.
Daily our young men and women are asked to put their lives on the line to defend this country - if they are successful in their work you sleep well at night unaware of anything they did. If they fail and a suicide bomber or terrorist succeeds you will hear all about it the next morning over coffee. You will sit there and complain or whine about the government's lack of intelligence or the military letting their guard down. Living in the "bliss of ignorance" to the many attempts the military stopped.
The media gives you what you want so don't complain when you don't hear about the great job the military is doing just when they fail.
The obvious is you are looking to simplify an issue in a way that makes you feel good.

At present the hard core terrorists are busy going to Iraq to fight the U.S. there. As to attacks in the U.S. there is no guarantee that this will not happen. There may be some softer targets elsewhere is the World to keep them busy. Until the Middle East issues are all addressed there will be a danger.

They won't follow them home if they leave Iraq. They are probably already inside the US. If you remember, they were in the US 3 years before doing the WTC attacks. It is a really stupid argument coming from the neocons. But heh, what can we really expect from them?

This is like living the Vietnam War all over again except that I am now too old to be drafted again. Old men start wars and young men and women have to fight them. I wonder if we would be at war with Iraq if they didn't have any oil in the ground. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Bush behaves more like a dictator than an American president. It is his fault the world hates us.

if it is as simple as that I have a bridge I will sell you cheap, okay? lets try to explain it this way, 1st by per suing them in Afghanistan we are making them spend their money to keep things alive there, and in Iraq, because if they lose there they also lose the money needed for terrorism, it cost plenty to set up a hit in any country especially America, we do have more security than most nations, but, I do expect to see a hit anytime, I just hope if it hits me it kills me instead of just making me a vegetable or something, if the wrong ones gain power in Iraq there will be hell to pay and a lot of it will be here in the states, once they are able to buy subs or something that can get them ashore with their explosives etc, there is not enough people to patrol our complete shore line, as you should know we have been invaded previously by the Germans in ww11 the Japanese ww11 Korea in about nov, of 1951 I think it was, and don't you ever believe we don't have terrorist here in our midst now, just waiting for their oppertunity, where they can make their escape as they don't want to die, in the process, they are not all sucidal

you are so correct my friend,, Bush would like the voters to believe that the terrorists are all in Iraq,, and will remain there as long as he and republicans have power,, it is an insult to the intelligence of Americans,, but a confirmation of the faithful following subjects of the GWB political and religious campaign organization

The idea that we somehow can prevent the terrorists from attacking the homeland by fighting them overseas is Republican/ conservative propaganda intended to make them look like they have the faintest idea what a rational war against terrorism might look like. They don't like the hard and oftentimes unseen work of gathering intelligence and making criminal cases rather than sending youth in their prime of life to die and kill people many of whom are not terrorists, but whose friends and family become more and more sympathetic to the terrorist cause.
So, you're right to say that the Republican/Conservative mantra of "Fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" is pure BS.

Do you truly think it is that simple? You are, right, Iraq is a mess, but don't think for one second if we let our guard down terrorism won't run rampant in the US and other democratic countries. Theyhate us because of our belief and what we represent. They hate you too just because of where you were born.
