Hey, I'm looking into buying a used cargo van, I'm looking for something that gets good gas mileage but also has a large interior, it doesn't need to be fast or strong, as I've already got a truck for hauling trailers. I would prefer american made, but have an open mind. Any suggestions? (please be specific)

The Chevrolet Astro or GMC Safari are inexpensive used mid-size vans, that are reliable and get around 18 mpg with a 4.3 liter V6, I have owned two, one of which I drive now and have been pleased with the room, power, and 5800 lb towing capacity. The Chevrolet Express vans also are available with a V6, V8, and also a Duratech diesel. The Express is a very large van, and may be what you are looking for. They are widely available used and reliable.

My father runs about 8 Chevy cargo vans. They have been great to him they are on the road all day 5 days a week. He has had Chevy/GM for the last 25 years he replaces them every so often. He rarely has problems with them. I don't believe Chevy does the diesel engines anymore, but if you are looking for used vehicles you might have luck getting one.

Depending on the weight of the cargo, I would suggest any Ford E-350 equipped with the 7.3L DIT V8 up to model year 2003. Stay away from the 2004 and up models equipped with the 6.0L. Depends on the money you're looking to spend.

He'll end up needing full sized. Ford f150 V8 is prob best. Yes, forget the Astro.

What not to buy! Dodge Caravan and it's co-brands (Plymouth and Chrysler). Very poor transmissions!
