I'm biracial and Im so sick of feeling like ''I dont exist'' what I mean by that is, people do sometimes see us as mixed, biracial, etc .... but when it comes to feeling out papers that ask for your ethnicity, ''biracial'' is not an option...Maybe if it was, biracial girls would be who they really are instead of being pressured by society to ''act as one race'' and/or label themselves as one of those races when we/they are actually both, Caucasian AND African American. 50/50.....that ''well if you have black in you, you're full black'' theory is bull s*h*i*t. Not that anything is wrong with being African American...but that theory is over rated and more importantly, false. I really feel like there is enough of us now and that we have been around for far too long now to not be recognized fully as our OWN race. We deserve the same amount of recognition as an independent race just as well as Hispanic, Caucasian, African American, Chinese (etc) people do!

Ok to the one girl that said how can someone of more than one race be considered as one race? EVERYBODY has different things mixed within them and the reason it is a big deal is because BIRACIAL is one of the main races....one of the big ones such as black, white, Hispanic etc. Now I could see if I posted a question on here that said ''I’m Italian, black, white, Syrian and Chinese'' why cant we have our own race but um no...I am only TWO...TWO MAIN ONES that a hell of alot of other people are too...and its not that serious? haha thats because you aren’t biracial...so I guess this isnt the only thing that dont make sense to you HAHA

u can always check both boxes. but u can also go to ur congressman and get up a petition and put it to a vote that at the next census they have a 50/50 put under the race box and then from there u get them to change all the job applicatins, social security forms, drivers license, etc. etc. etc. u do get the picture. u can also go to court and have a judge say that u can put CAA in to the spot for race. there's lots of things u can do if u r that upset and passionate about it. So U GO GIRL

It's not the categories for you to choose from thats the problem but the whole idea of "race"
I hear that on some government forms now they have:
Black nonhispanic
Black HIspanic
White nonhispanic
White Hispanic

How can someone who is supposedly mixed with two races be one race? That makes no sense to me
But forreal i dont think its that serious

HA HA HA Who really should be laughing here? While you're worried about how to identify yourself on a piece of paper, I'm worried about things that actually matter. And part of what you said helps me out. In actuality, there are few people left on this planet that are one "pure" race. So then everyone should be screaming multiracial then. Does that make sense to you? And how can you really be two races if chances are your white and black parents have other "stuff" in their lineage? But since race is not scientifically justified you can't be two races or biracial. You are multicultural honey so ask another question.

Baby we can go back and forth for the rest of your life if you want. But if you really want to tell me what I need to "learn", e-mail me your email address otherwise I see you are really not up for the discussion. And I never ask for sympathy and I see you didnt directly respond to my statements; when you do that then I'll acknowledge that you're worth arguing with
I dont have to agree with you, thats part of the whole point, you're the one who responded to my individual post, obviously you're not so much "better"

I'll placed my criticisms approximately the plausibility of the Adam and Eve conception apart and say that relationship an additional race is a large limitation considering the fact that race has been made right into a large limitation during historical past. It's undoubtedly much less and not more of a deal every passing 12 months although, as I see insecure black ladies come on Y/A close to day-to-day considering if white guys discover them beautiful.

I agree with you that Bi-racial or mixed race should be considered a category when people are asked what race they are.

I say mixed race because what if your mother had a Japanese father and a Black mother, while your father had a White Mother and a Chinese father.

Well, maybe it's not that common, but I think it'll be more and more common in the U.S. I think we have the biggest mixture of ethnic groups than any other country.

I think it is one of our strengths when compared to European countries where over ninety percent of the people are White, or African countries where almost everyone is Black, or Asian countries where almost everyone is Asian.

I agree with you I have 2 cousins that are biracial and too see what they have to go through everyday by other people is disgusting. Why people can't just worry about themselves and leave others alone? Everyone decerves to be labeled as a certain race not just "OTHER"!!!

Hispanic is not a race. And that happens because you live in the United States, in open-minded countries (all Latin American countries) there are options for multiracial. Actually people don't ask your race in Latin America...

"biracial" is an interesting label to attach to oneself. many years ago in the UK, we had a label called half-caste, to which now is considered an offensive term. but think about for a moment, it literally meant the cohesion of two cultures, blending together to create a human being. a beautiful coupling! you start attaching labels to every single culture it is then you will encounter racism. we are essentially one race. we have encountered problems because quite simply we attach labels of identity. racism is about superiority, you start with independent races then you have got problems, already we can see that.

in Spanish there exist several words for "biracial", according to every possible combination. eg: spaniard + native south american = "mestizo"... etc.

i agree with you and understand that those categories are narrow and therefore feel like discriminatory.

My opinion, for what it's worth, the papers should have American listed on them. We are a big melting pot, and racial purity doesn't seem to exist any more.
