Eat foods high in protein with a medium number of carbohydrates in them. Your body will make less glycogen (sugar), and will give you more energy. (Steaks are a favorite.)
If you are looking to really tone up, eat foods high in protein and sugar, like protein milkshakes.

I would say simply follow all the rules based on the knowledge that we now have about healthy eating. You ARE what you eat, and when you eat right, you will have all the energy you need for that toning up that you want. Of course, two other indispensible ingredients are adequate sleep - and "stickwithitness"

Tuna from the can or steamed fresh tuna.
nuts and grains. stay away from rice bread and other simple starches..High protien and low carbs. dont eliminate the carbs.

even if you eat a strict diet it wont make you tone up....you need to excersize in order to lose any weight.
