I think it should be a joint decision between the two of you. Maybe if your husband wants to know then let him find out. Just let him know how important it is to you for it to be a surprize...hopefully he would keep it a secret. When my mother was pregnant with me she wanted to know and my dad didn't. She found out and never told anyone until I was born. I think the secret can be kept if both parties are committed.

I knew the sex of my son before he was born. My husband did NOT want to know he wanted it to be a surprise. With my daughter {13yrs ago} I just had a feeling it was a girl. The old wives tale about carrying high. With my son I suspected it was a boy but didn't say anything {solely by the way I carried}. We had ultrasounds every 2 weeks until I was 26 weeks pregnant then weekly until I delivered a month early {I was a very high risk pregnancy due to incompetence and dynamic cervix}. At our 24th week ultrasound my husband said to the tech "I don't want to know the sex" and as soon as she put it on my belly there it was a BOY!. I turned to my husband and I guess he could see the look of disappointment on my face {since I wanted a girl so badly} and all he could do was smile and say "baby I'm sorry". But its alright my two children are my world regardless of their gender. Would I have been okay not knowing what I was carrying? I think it was easier picking out clothes, nursery theme, and names knowing what we were having. And my OB dr knew the baby's name the second it came out. Because during my appointments he'd say "lets see how Trey is doing this week". Even the staff at the hospital where I was for a month during my pregnancy all knew his name and since I was a "long term bedrest patient" got together and bought him the cutest little personalized blanket which was given to me the day I was discharged and 2 days later I gave birth.

I've had five children. We didn't find out with the first four they were girls. My last pregnancy I gave in to my husband and found out I was having a boy. It is not the same as finding out when you have the baby. Even though I knew I was having a boy I couldn't believe it up until I had him and picking a name for him was hard because we knew it was going to be a boy.

I wanted to know the sex of my baby so that I could be prepared. If you found out you were having another boy, you probably wouldn't need to buy as many clothes and such. If you are having a girl, you could be prepared ahead of time.
Knowing the sex of the baby would also help you to bond with the baby instead of calling the baby "it" for the entire pregnancy.

I'm in the same spot and my boyfriend is actually angry at me for not wanting to know! He's free to find out (even though I know the suprise will be ruined at some point if he does) but I just don't want to know.
Aside from knowing that my baby is healthy via ultrasound, I want to learn all about my baby FROM my baby, when we meet face to face.
I also want to enjoy one of the few good suprises in life - what a treat!
Also, I don't want a tech to tell me a gender that turns out to be incorrect.
I know everyone says it's good to know so you can prepare, but I can't force myself to care about the color of bedding when I'm not the kind of mom who really likes pink or blue anyway.
This is a sticky situation, because I feel a lot of pressure from everyone to find out, but I really don't want to know. My boyfriend even asked my why I was so insistent on being "disconnected from the baby"! really, I just don't want to have preconcieved notions about my baby before I meet him or her. I will love that baby no matter what he or she wants to be...now and always.
Anyway, if you figure out what to do, you let me know!

I knew with both my kids. But i always wanted that surprise in the delivery room. Pick a name for a boy and girl, and get all neutral colors like yellow, green, red, colors that can go either way. Good Luck!

I agree that life holds so few true, pleasant surprises! I waited to find out with my child (the only one I'll have :(
Well, I used to work at a women's clinic and when they would do the ultrasounds they would ask MOM if she wanted to know, and MOM's rule! They wouldn't tell if Dad wanted to know and Mom didn't.
Just keep talking with your husband about it, why each of you feels the way you do...see if you can't convince him!
Good luck and Congrats!!!

I liked knowing so I that I could plan ahead with clothing, decorations, and get myself in the right frame of mind. Also giving the baby a name before she was born helped me to bond with her. Although I can see your point in this being your third and last pregnancy. Explain to your hubby that you'd like to be surprised and hope that he can respect your feelings. So if he wants to find out the sex, he can't tell another soul...including you.

I like surprises, but I couldn't wait to know what my baby is. It makes it easier to pick the babys name and get things ready before it is here.
It's up to you guys though.
Maybe he can keep it secret. Make him promise before he finds out and if he tells then put him in the doghouse. lol
