The state university in your state is always the cheapest and best route for online study. They are fully (regionally) accredited, and the degrees they issue are most often the SAME as the degrees awarded to students who study in person.

If your state university does not yet have a "distance education" program, then surrounding states will. Some of the best ones are:

Arizona State U
Colorado State
Kansas State U
Oklahoma State U
Penn State (PASSHE)
University of Alaska
University of California
University of Florida
University of Illinois
University of Maryland
University of Michigan
University of Minnesota
University of South Carolina
Washington State U

What do you want to study? If you want to study HTML or XML programming, for example, there's some good free schools, like W3 Schools.

Yikes - $700 per unit??? That is super expensive!!!!!

You can try Raritan Valley community college. They have good online courses. Also their fees per credit is much lower than any other schools offering online courses

School is not cheap first of all. So good luck with that search.

AIU is not a bad deal. The tuition includes books, software and any extras.
