Dear, I can tell you that life in the USA can mimic some movies, in some places and some of the time. There is no one way to describe life here, except for a multitude of freedoms.
We are blessed with grocery stores chock full of staples and luxuries, but not all the families in American can afford food. There are areas in Appalacia, and on reservations and in city slums where food is a rarity and children starve to death.
We are blessed and cursed with expensive homes. Most folks go into debt for their lifetimes trying to keep up an 'image' they believe necessary. The average small home in California or Florida is going to cost about $80,000 or more; in Missouri and a few other states, you can buy a house twice the size..with land.. for $20,000. Couples end up holding two jobs apiece, and their kids spend after-school hours alone, in order to afford those 'images.' Pretty ridiculous.
The crime rates .. and the likelihood of being robbed, molested or killed ... are skyrocketing. In the week prior to my move to the midwest, there were FIVE murders within a two-block area of my home in Southern California .. .and it was a very nice, aristocratic neighborhood. Most crime is attributed to drugs. There is an aspect of the drug culture that some police officers call 'hypes on bikes' or those who spend each night riding around on bicycles rummaging through dumpsters and trash cans, or looking for things to steal.
People here can be extraordinarily kind and helpful. Charities abound, doing work amongst our poorest populations. 'Most everyone has a TV or two, and at least one car. (Too bad we can't afford the gas for 'em..) Most folks will give you their last dime .. but, like most societies, there are some who will take it from you without asking.
We bicker amongst ourselves, particularly around election time. For some reason, there is a movement afoot to divide America into red and blue states. How absurd. There are no red and blue Americans .. only AMERICANS. Just can't convince the media of that fact.
We fuss about our President, our Congress and our Representatives. Yet, we were free to elect them and we are also free to remove them from office if the situation warrants.
The TV announcers bombard us with things we MUST have, everything from new medicines to air fresheners to IPods and tell us Christmas is now the 'holiday season' and another reason to go into debt, instead of celebrating Christ's birth.
Even though our country was founded on Christian principles, there is a minority determined to remove God from our society. They've already succeeded in schools .. or so they think. Anyone that believes God is out of the school system should hear the prayers at final exams! And at incidents like Columbine.
There is both good and bad here, but the whole point is .. we are FREE to say and do and think and act and worship the way we choose, so long as it does not interfere with the liberties of others.
I think that is pretty amazing.

Actually, lots of people retire in Florida. I wouldn't live there. Too many old people. Ha ha! Also there is bad hurricanes and the heat and humidity is terrible in the summer. I've lived in lots of places. My advice to you is to move around, try some places and see how you like it. I've lived in Missouri, Alabama, Kansas, Indiana, California, and Colorado. California is very expensive to live. I wouldn't recommend living there unless you had a really good job. People in Indiana are by far the most friendly group of people I've come across. Colorado is a beautiful place to live if you like outdoor activity. Once you get here, plan to move around and when you find a good place to call home, you'll know when you've found it.

I was living in Canada for 20 years before I moved to Boston, MA. This country seems very uneducated about other countries and traditions. It is a country full of patriotic people who are not afraid of speaking their mind. They do have the Hollywood lifestyle in the big cities but small towns i'm told are very different. Also, lifestyle is different from state to state. The southern states are supposedly very "country" where the northern states are very industrial. But be warned, if you're not American, you'll have to fight your way to the top and work hard on getting respect. Like I said, americans know very little about any country than their own.

Sorry, I haven't seen those movies. USA is anything you want it to be. We have every kind of climate, city or country living and best of all - freedom! Anyone can become affluent if they really try. And best state? Most people would answer, "Mine". Why don't you research the different regions. And please, if you move here, do it legally. None of us want to pay taxes to support you.
