I also dont understand these two questions for my algerbra homework, ___ just means a blank:
___ s >14, s <-7

-2a > ___ , a < -9

First one: the only solution is that x = y. This can be much more easily solved graphically. Draw an axis, choose any x, shade where y can be to fulfill the first condition, then do the same for the second condition. You'll easily realize that x has to be equal to y.

-2a > _ ; a < -9
You need to work the right side until it turns into the same type of expression in the left side.
First multiply by 2 both sides:
2a < -18

Now you now that to turn the less than you can multiply by -1. Doing that you obtain:

2a (-1) > -18*(-1) which ends up being
-2a > 18 which is exactly what you are looking for.

If x ≥ y and -x ≥ -y then x and y are equal.
