What's a good way to get traffic to my site free of charge?

Question

I have a website and i need to get people to visit it. It's a select target that i'm interested in since i am selling an ebook on medical billing. I want to target either people trying to start a home business or those wanting to enter into the medical billing business. My site is http://www.claimdx.com/books

Please help. All ideas are welcomed.

When you say that you used google ad sense, how does that work? Do i pay and sign up or is it like a link exchange?

Have you thought about pay per click programs? The two biggest, I think, are Yahoo! and Google

A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:

1) Create a blog pertaining to your field

2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!

3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.

4) Advertise on Craiglist

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

Good ways to get traffic to your site for free are:

1) Email Signatures
2) Writing Articles and posting them to article directories
3) Posting at forums which are about the subject of your website.
4) Create a blog... and everyday post articles, comments, etc about the subject and then leave a link to your site

I used Google Ad sense and it drove my traffic up by at least 200%.

Be aware that you will need to install their banner somewhere on your webpage. I added a tiny little banner to the bottom of the page (almost out of view unless you scroll all the way to the bottom).

Anyway, don't expect payment because they never paid me for the high traffic that I got, but it is worth it just for the traffic alone.

After about 6 months I took off the banner but still got the traffic.
