As a gay man, I personally am only concerned that I have the same rights with my partner as a married couple, regardless of what it is called. However, I think if we go by your reasoning, it could be said that because white land owners created our democratic government and the electoral process, that only white land owners should be able to "vote" and that the process should be called by a different name for blacks and women. That doesn't make much sense, does it? The fact is that society came to realize that the right to vote belonged to everyone and hopefully it will realize that marriage is for everyone who wants to be in a loving committed relationship, regardless of his or her orientation.

No, It is not opposing the rights of heterosexuals. Yes, marriages were created by church for the opposit sex: but, in todays society you can be married at the town office or by a Notary Republic. Marriage is a contract between two people. They work their whole lives to buy a home, raise a family, pay bills, taxes, and provide for each other. This is what a marriage is about, not what sex you are. PS I am heteros, I see nothing wrong with it.

Why is that? As far as I am aware, a marriage is the union of two people. The term is even used when referring to the merging of two objects. Just because you cannot find any old texts that say 2 men or 2 women "got married" doesn't mean that using the term "marriage" when referring to a same-sex union is incorrect.

Do keep in mind that the people who wrote (or edited) the books of today are conservatives and have deleted texts which they felt were inappropriate at the time. The bible itself, was grossly edited, as we all know. The bible as we know it was based on the King James version and King James himself did some heavy editing on the holy book.

Haha. To say heterosexual created marriage is absurd. Marriage was created in many places, and is in no means a christian church monopoly.

I'd say it even predates the faith of judaism. Do we really know that marriage was meant to be exclusive to heterosexual couples? Perhaps in some places, but there is no way of knowing for certain.

Sometimes marriage meant being sacrificed to a deity in a bonfire, even, if you were singled out to marry a god. ;)

Your rant wanders in its logic . . . is marriage a religious 'sacrament' to you or a secular 'right'?

Figure out what your premise is and then re-post your question so that it makes sense!

I think that no one should have 'rights' based on who they have sex with. I am an unmarried female, and it makes no sense to me that other people should have tax and financial benefits because they chose to sleep together. I don't really care what sexual preference they have.

You are the one wanting to infringe rights because you are trying to stop them doing something, they aren't trying to stop you.
