Personally, I don't like having the pee scared out of me, but I know of people who do. Scary movies are an adrenalin rush for many people and this dates back to at least the Alfred Hitchock movies of The Birds and Psycho.

I'll let other people provide the other 2 reasons.

1. We all have a little bit of thrill-seeker in us.
2. Some part of the brain in all of us is a little bit twisted, horror movies satisfy that twisted little part so we don't go out and satisfy it in worse ways than watching a movie, before movies people wrote or read books for that purpose.
3. We like to laugh, so many horror movies are ridiculous that they are laughable.

1. To see how much the movie can scare me.
2. The excitement of the suspense.
3. Seeing the monster or bad guy of the movie.

First, if you're alone, then you're watching the movie for the thrill of it. It makes you think what would you do in the victims position. Adrenaline pumps thru your blood, and its a good, weird feeling. If you're with a girl/guy, the real reason is to cuddle up and feel safe in your partners arms.

Horror films get the adrenaline pumping and people like the feeling of being afraid, as long as they know they are safe. Also some can be quite tongue and cheek and quite amusing. HTH : )
