Just want somethin to do everyday stuff with and some decent gaming. Half Life 2, Source Mods. Even some intense games if I get back into it enough. I know DDR has higher latency but Im looking for long term, well as far as long term can go in the pc industry.

I assume you meant DDR2 has high latency. Anyway since you mentioned that I assume that means you know that the only difference in the two sockets is that AM2 uses DDR2 and 939 uses DDR. AM2 is the future as the first guy said, it will even be compatible with down the road processor designed for the new AM3 socket. Also, DDR2 is better than DDR because of its higher clock speeds, even with the high latency, so AM2 is the clear choice.

939 is dead now that they have AM2. AM2 has a future while AMD droped support for the 939. Go with AM2 if you thiink you might upgarde later. And since Gigabyte merged together with Asus they are now the best motherboard manufactures. So I would recommend a board made by them.

I would look for DDR that has a Low CAS Latency
