You could just not have very reliable Internet. If you're using your neighbour's connection and it runs faster, than yours is just..slower.

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

If there connection is stronger its probably interfering with yours. Especially if they are next door. I work at comcast and this can happen. Also Comcast issue dynamic ip addresses so they change constantly. If you connected through a router then the modem can't get the ip to your computer. You end up needing to power cycle alot. Why don't you stay connected to the modem...or email me privately if you have Comcast and I can tell you if there is an outage with your zip code.

Is your router wireless??? If so... Do you have a cordless phone that is 2.4 GHz if so... they are interfering with each other.

If it is a Hard Wired connection, Hold down the Reset Button on your Router for 10 seconds then release it.... allow it to auto configure itself (it will) then powercycle your PC that should set your router to optimum settings. If all else fails... Buy a newer/better router... I recommend LinkSys they are the best, for home networking.

It sound like you've got a slower router compared to your neighbours. Check in your router manual about the different settings, and that it's one of the ones that can go really fast.

Also - change your connection settings in your router, someone may have found a way in and is hogging your bandwidth. Yes, it's possible and only takes a couple programs.

In mine, for example, I can tell it to only allow connections from the MAC address on my wireless thumb. Even if someone could guess my password, it would refuse their connection.

Also, IE's known for being rather slow going from page to page, I suggest you try Firefox...

Free, fast, a small 5mb download, Firefox blocks pop-ups and sites from secretly installing programs on your computer. Firefox is powerful too, it's more up-to-date than even IE7 according to the web standards (w3.org).

The main reason I like Firefox is because it's customizable.

Why is customizability important?

Imagine being able to do 2 small things and never seeing a banner ad, flash ad or an iframe ad again? (Remember, pop-ups are gone already)
Imagine being able to pause your computer's music player when the phone rings without having to switch to it?

Firefox puts the power back in your hands!
