It may be due to the fact that you downloaded some software that requires you to have it installed! If so, uninstall the software. Do a search on the net for the particular spyware and manually remove it. REMEMBER to always read the contract explicitly whenever you download something! It will usually state in fine print that it is going to install adware.

Yahoo antispyware was good when the had "Trend Micro". For some unknown reason they have lost their mind, and switched to the very worse garbage, Nortons. (What can you expect from Nortons not finding and removing a spyware or an antivirus.
Here are two excellent programs that I use in my computers.
http://www.emsisoft.com Download their A2 Squared, their free version, not the paid version unless you have the money. The free version is excellent and will protect you also from rogue dialers if you are on dialup. (I am on ADSL, but use for the added protection.
They will ask you for your email, so they can send you a free key to install the free program.
If you can afford the purchased version it will come with an excellent background guard, that really works in realtime. Otherwise if not the free version will do the job for you. (The company is out of Austria).
Or you can download from, http://www.ewido.net This is a purchase program that if you don't purchase in thrity days they will just remove the guard from the tray and the automatic updates.
My own personal opinion they are actually almost equal. A2Squared will protect you better from rogue dialers.
Always, reboot after your antispyware removes a spyware or your antivirus removes a virus.

download crap cleaner from www.ccleaner.com use the run cleaner feature, after that use the icon on the left to fix all issues.
If that doesn't get it use hijackthis.com.
Get good antiviral and spyware from Trend Micro internet security and set it up to do all your updates and scans by itself and tell it to clean and delete all virus's. I have used the product for ages and it keeps things clean.

Lavasoft AdAware SE very own is loose. Spybot S&D is loose. They the two discover and sparkling, yet do no longer preclude. you may have greater advantageous than one anti-spyware on your device, yet in easy terms one antivirus software to be effective. confirm you especially get definition updates. i discover Norton antivirus to be a source hog. i exploit lighter products like Avast, AVG or F-Prot for antivirus.

find the spyware name do a search then delete any entry with the name attatched. there maybe a link to your start-up file that causes it to re-appear each time you start. by doing this you should block it.
