I manage about 20 people - too many of whom are teenagers. Some days are great and some workers are great - this is the rewarding part of the job, but does anyone else just get burned out by the people they manage sometimes? They have no idea how draining it can be to put up with all their drama and excuses...
Please somebody, tell me you deal with this feeling too on occasion.

i am a controller for a corporation, and yes it does get trying sometimes. the most frustrating thing is repeating myself on protocol and procedures over and over again. i feel like i am not being shown consideration or respect when the employees dont listen. sometimes i feel like just shaking the hell out of them to get them to listen, but of course i dont. they dont seem to realize that in the long run, the only person they are hurting is themself. i am responsible for employee reviews, and they wonder why i give them negative marks. i believe that they think managers, supervisors, or anyone in authority in the workplace has it easy. i would gladly trade places with any of them for just one day, so that they could understand the stress that i am under. sigh...wishful thinking.

Yes. Just this Friday we had a retreat (I run a substance abuse clinic in the NYC) and at the end of the day the staff rated the retreat and some of the things they anonymously wrote were disheartening and untrue. I felt resentment, some anger and a sense that no matter what you do, it's never enough.

I try not to resent them, but it can be hard. The excuses they come up with at the last min. I usually have to work in their place because I cannot get a replacement on such short notice. Most are great and want to work but always some who want a paycheck but don't want to do their work.

I was a shift manager at a pizza joint, and of course that means that all I'm supposed to do is make sure stuff gets done, and of course if it doesn't I can't do jack cuz I didn't have firing power. So yeah, I'd get those kids all the time who didn't wanna do anything and would mess everything up all the time. fun stuff! I hated it!
