I am an American High School Student. I am 16, and I take Chinese in High School. I have taken it for 3 years, and next year will be my forth. I wondered if any Americans went to college in China/Taiwan (or Chinese People who could also answer my questions).

My chinese teacher said it was really cheep. So that is a plus. How much chinese do I need to know. How long is college there for a degree, and is it realistic to get a degree in China, instead of America. I also know that Americans can go to teahc in China, so what degree would I need for this. What are some possible colleges i could go to. How long would I go? What test do I need to take, and how do they decide to accpet you or not? What can I study. Any information is greatly appricated. Thank you, Xie xie!

Check out Hong Kong(HK), which is a nice place to study at. It's part of China but it's a Special Administrative Region. I don't know how familiar you are with HK, but lots of exchange students around the world (Chinese -- students from China, Americans, Europeans etc.) spend their college time at the universities in HK. I'd recommend the University of Hong Kong to you. Here're the links: http://www.hku.hk [Homepage] and http://www.hku.hk/admission/nonjupas [Admission]

As for the universities in China, there are some real famous ones, such as Tsinghua University (Beijing) http://www.tsinghua.edu.cn/qhdwzyeng/index.jsp, Peking University (Beijing) http://en.pku.edu.cn/, Fudan University (Shanghai) http://www.fudan.edu.cn/englishnew/, Jinan University (Guangzhou) [The English version is not working].

They have 4-year colleges in China (may vary with curriculums) and 3-year colleges in HK. If you pick China, you will have to be able to communicate with the local people (the ability to deal with daily conversations and the Chinese words) since not many of them speak English and they don't have English translations for everything. But if you pick HK, things will be a lot easier. You don't need to speak Chinese in HK because all the universities there use English as their medium of instructions. I'm not saying that all HK people speak English but you got almost everything in English and Chinese in HK from campus to the world outside.

But there're some problems you got to deal with: 1. most HK people speak Cantonese instead of Mandarin though some of them do know Mandarin. 2. HK people use a different set of Chinese characters(Traditional Chinese) than those of the Mainland (Simplified Chinese). You may have problems reading Chinese in HK.

Actually, I'm more familiar with the universities in HK, especially the University of Hong Kong. Anyway, I hope you will find the information above of help. Email me if you need further information. And I also suggest you talking to a "college conselor" if you manage to find one.

It relies upon. The censorship classes that blocks web pages are consistent with any outdoors of China websites that could comprise concepts serious of the persons's occasion (study communist occasion of China). case in point, any websites that incorporates concepts on the Tiananmen sq. massacre of 1989 may well be blocked. hazard is that if the internet type is a technical orientated internet site, it would not be blocked.
