Speed is a unit of measurement which gives you a figure for a rate of motion during a given period of time. Acceleration is a rate or increasing speed.

In calculus, if a function gives position (height), the first derivative will give velocity (essentially speed), which is how much the position is changing each second, basically how fast an object travels. The SECOND derivative (derivative of the derivative) will give acceleration, which tells how much the speed is changing each second, that is whether it's speeding up or slowing down and by how much.

speed is the rate (distance moved per unit of time) of motion
acceleration has to do with the time required to reach the speed

Speed is how fast you are going. Acceleration is the start from 0 to how far yo get. ok that didnt make sense.....

Speed and accelaration are completely different quantities.While speed is the rate of change of position of a body in comparasion with another body in unit time,accelaration is the rate of change of speed of a body in unit time.While the unit of speed in metric unit is m/s.the unit of velocity in the same unit is m/s2

speed is the rate you are going
speed = distance/time
acceleration is a change in speed (going faster or slower)
acceleration = original speed (that distance/time) - new speed (that distance/speed) / time it takes for the change to occur
you can also condense it to: change in speed/change in time
