I know we live in a democratic society but is it still right to criticize others so harshly.

Some people are just mean. I think that if people would use common sense they would not say half of the things they do. I for one am proud to live in America. I'm proud of our President. And I would never say many of the things that are said on here. I think that people do not think things through before they say them. Especially when asking some of the questions that get asked on here. I agree with you that people should not say many of the things that they do. However, our soldiers are off on foreign land fighting for our freedom so people have the right to free speech. We have to take the good with the bad and just know that some people are just mean and will be argumentative about everything. A lot of times just to hear themselves talk.

Selfishness. Unwilling to slow down for yellow traffic lights.
At least we hear where the rabble-rousing stems from and can formulate our plans to ostracize. There are still social consequences to incendiary comments and malicious behaviors. People become disenfranchised and the nasties hang themselves. Backlash.
What is it about wrecking presentations of contradicting personal views? What, are politics a religion to these people?
Those aggressive behaviors should be criminalized. That's not freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech is in place to protect you if the government and only the government wants to shut you up. We need to keep in mind that not everyone has governmental authority to halt your musings. So it doesn't apply to each conversation.
It shouldn't grossly apply to "art" either. Art is not a language. It is a visual evoking emotions meant to viscerally move you.
Why do people take advantage of freedom of speech. As usual, they don't understand what it means.

It is ok to criticise,but not too harshly,as every one is entitled to their own opinion with regards to freedom of speech and their own idea of democracy.BLAHBLUEP says she is proud of her president-for what has been proved to be an illegal war-really?She also says the soldiers over in Iraq are fighting for america's freedom...is Iraq due to invade america then-something we didn't know about until she mentioned it-or perhaps she has the presidents ear on such things?Are ALL the coalition forces from the different country's involved fighting for america's freedom then in that case?Is america under threat?This is freedom of speech!!

You can never take advantage of your freedom. If speech was something like walking, and Americans were given freedom of walking, would you wonder why people walk so much? Would you wonder why Americans take advantage of the freedom of walking? No. You don't want to know why people take advantage of freedom of speech; you want to know why people are so mean.

as far as taking advantage is concerned, its because people think they can say whatever they want, and be free of criticism for it. But if you want the right to speak, you must allow the right for others to speak as well

Because they can, you have to put up with the extremists point of view to enable everyone else to have their say.
We are lucky to live in a free democracy it's not perfect but better than living under threat of death from disagreeing with someones point of view. Too many dictators out there, Freedoms the word embrace it.

Well, we in Britain have a lot less freedom of speech than nine years ago so use it while you can. In any case Brown will probably tax it.

Just self lack of knowledge between complaints and problems solving in coming up with a solution.
So we get more complaints than solution to what went wrong out there in planet of apes.
