i don't hink we should give up personal privacy so that we all can be safe because giving up my privacy is not protecting me

No. Lets say you are talking with your gf/bf about something nasty. Would you say it to the PM, president etc???

In general, no.

In specific, yes. If another terrorist attack happens and the government tries to say that they were aware of some individual's terrorist connections but failed to monitor that individual's activities due to privacy concerns, that argument will ring pretty hollow.

I'm for the government monitoring communications between US contacts and susected terrorist affiliates overseas. If one chooses to correspond with enemies of this nation, then they do so at their peril. If one side of the connection is a terrorist and the other a US citizen, the communication is fair game.

If you don't want to be monitored, don't talk with terrorists.

BTW, do you really think the government is really interested in your petty life? Or anyone's petty life? Get real. The government is capable of monitoring every electronic communication in the US. Can they really take the time to swipe your favorite Aunt's apple pie recipe? None of us are that interesting....

Giving up personal privacy does not equate to safety and anyone foolish enough to think so will wind up losing both.
