shes 3, and where the oily looking scales are she seems to be losing hair. Does anybody know what this could be and what I could use to help prevent it? I am taking her to the doctor on tuesday to get her doctors opinion, just curious if anybody had any ideas to do before then.

One person suggested that it was cradle cap, can you get that as you get older, I thought that was exclusively for newborns and infants, if it is cradle cap, how can I prevent it from happening again?

Actually it sounds like psoriasis or eczema. Since it's on her head, you'll have to see what the dr. can give you (probably a prescription shampoo)....on other body areas it's usually hyrdocortisone or just heavy-duty moisturizer like eucerin.

To get the scales off, soak the patch with baby oil & leave it over night (with a hat on, if you can talk her into it). In the morning it should be pretty easy to remove with a wet wash cloth. You should probably leave it scaly until the doctor sees her though, so he can get a first-hand view of the problem.

DO NOT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SCRUB HER HEAD. You can use baby oil and massage it in to her scalp it will eventually fall off and go away on its own. Any doctor will tell you not to scrub good luck I used the baby oil gel from johnson and johnson its not as oily as the original baby oil and it worked very well for my daughter just keep scalp conditioned at all times. I hope this was helpful

I had the same problem. You should wash her hair with soap and water and then scrape it off. It is a bad issue of dry scalp. Make sure you buy something to keep her hair moisturized.

Might wanna try baby oil/shampoo, but dont glob it on just use
a little. There is also some sort of toddler shampoo that is in a
colorful bottle that looks like a fish standing on its fins, that could
work.

Try neutrogena shampoo. When my boys were younger they both had the same issue and it worked for them. Use it weekly. It does have a not so pleasant smell however.
