I would suggest first checking with the source you purchased the wood floor from, or failing that the manfaturer. I would guess that Bruce, Hartco, Mullican (three manufacturers that my emplyer deals with) may all have maintenance info on their web sites. Their answer may also depend on what the finish on your wood floor is.
Assuming you have a relatively newer floor with a urethane finish, I would suggest using a brown paper bag and an iron. After gently scraping up what wax you can with a butter knife (or anything that does not have a really sharp edge that might scratch the finish), put the flattened paper bag over the remaining wax, and use the iron to melt the wax into the paper bag. This will also work on carpet, but with carpet use the lowest possible heat setting to melt the wax, otherwise you also risk melting the carpet yarn.

The microwaved wet rag is fine if you don't mind the second degree burns. I found the hair drier works magic! Just heat a small patch at a time until the wax begins to liquify, then wipe it clean with a paper towel. People used to pay good money to get that good of a wax on the floor.

Use an iron and a towel. Place the towel over the wax and put the iron on it till the wax gets wet and melts again. This will allow you to wipe it up. It may take several attempts- and there could still be some bleeding of color into the wood that could need to be refinished.
Sorry to hear that.

Paper towel and iron. This is useful to remove wax on clothing also. If the wax is colored, it may stain. Once wax bulk is removed, just use some fine sandpaper to release any color stain assuming you really mean hardwood and not pergo.

Try laying a paper towel on the floor and putting a hot iron on top of it for a minute. This should melt the wax and the paper towel should absorb it.

easy...and requires no ironing!
wait until all the wax is cool and hard then just use an old credit card or something similar to scrape it off, wash your floor as normal and you're good to go!!!
