I am applying to become a citizen. I am thinking to change from an akward last name to a more simpler name. Do you think it will give me a headache once I have to update my records. Do they change the social security. How do I prove that I am the same person.

You will first have to apply for a name change through the courts. If the name change is granted all you need to do is take the paperwork from the court approving the name change to all the places that would need it.

just think of it like a woman taking her husbands name, it happens all the time and all my records follow me. i keep my social security card with both names, but i've never had a problem. changing your name isn't hard on your bills, you usually just need a copy of the court document that changed your name and a copy of your new photo id. also, i think it's not very expensive to change your name. good luck!
