I'm sorry, but that's hypocrtical. You're a christian yet you're not celebrating Halloween, which IS a christian/pagan holiday. You don't tell your family that your child isn't participating in Halloween.
Do you celebrate Christmas and Easter? Those are Pagan holidays, too. Do you consider them evil? Probably not. You should really read up on your history and really know the facts about something before making such a decision.
Christians can tell their children of Santa, the easter bunny and the tooth fairy, but won't participate in a TRUE christian holiday because they think it's "Evil." It derrived from YOUR religion. Does that make you evil? It does, if Halloween were in fact, evil.
Not allowing your child to partake in a holiday can cause problems for them throughout their life. It can cause problems for you, as well. Are you going to lie to your child 3 years from now when they ask you why everyone else gets to do it and they don't and tell them that it's evil? Christians aren't supposed to lie.
Think about it. Aside from the traditional way of how Halloween was originally celebrated, it is usually celebrated today by people dressing up in costumes and going from door to door asking for candy. When Halloween first started, Christians would go from door to door asking for "Soul cakes." The cakes were handed to them, and that night, for every cake that they got from a particular house, they would say that many prayers for the people in that house. What's evil about that? These are FACTS.
I've answered your question, although not in the way you wanted me to. Can you answer mine, now?

I think people are right in saying you must just tell them what you want to do with your daughter, but at the same time I think I understand how you feel, when your family may not understand where you are coming from.
Linda Hacon Winwood has written a book called "Mommy, why don't we celebrate Halloween", someone gave it to me when my children were small. It is available on Amazon, I just checked. It gives some good info on the origins of Halloween, for if you actually want to get into any discussion with your family. (even though it is a children's book!)
When people make comments about Halloween on yahoo answers a lot of them seem confused about where it really started from, even the christians.

You have every right not to want your daughter involved, personally I feel that Halloween is just an excuse for children to go around houses and beg for sweets; it is a joke.
We ignore beggars in the street and look down on them and yet we are happy to give sweets to children who come to our houses begging. Ask yourselves who really needs those sweets, give the money to someone that could actually use it to improve their own life, and if your kids want sweets so bad buy some for them, just don't send them begging for them.

just tell them. i am Christian and loved Halloween as a kid. My parents wouldn't let me go trick or treating as they thought it was just acceptable begging but we used to have a family halloween party every year with games and spooky films etc

Tell them straight out. I've been there.
Do you have a party for kids at your church? We call it 'Harvest Night' if you do, just make plans to go there with your children, and tell your family that's where you will be.

I agree with Female. Make sure she isn't going to be involved in "devil stuff." Let her go out with her friends and go trick or treating. There's nothing wrong with that.

Just tell them. It's nothing to be ashamed of and it is your daughter, not theirs. They should respect your decision. There are more people out there that share your views than you might think.

Just explain that it's against your religion. It might not be the "nicest" way but you need to let them know.
