Give out the candy bars...

There are pros and cons for giving out fruit treats. The good news is that fruit is a much healthier snack, which parents will appreciate more than the kids. However, it's been shown in years past that some real sickos had given fruit that was contaminated, or apples in which razor blades were hidden. Therefore, it is better to give candy that's wrapped, as there is less chance of it being tampered with, and is more sanitary as it is theoretically untouched by human hands. This is certainly not a reflection on you or other adults who have displayed generosity and thoughtfulness. It's just that some perverts have come along to spoil the safety and spontaneity of Halloween for the kids and parents alike. As a further precaution to all parents: Inspect your child's treats very carefully before you allow them to partake of them. The kids should be instructed not to eat any treats until they get home and their parents have a chance to look over everything in their Halloween sacks.

you'd be better off handing out pennies.. for kids its better than fruit snacks since being thier sole purpose for the evening is to get dressed up and get some "treats".. maybe gummie bears would work too... or maybe all the mom's are just pissed that they didn't think of the chocolate first.. you could compromise though and get some of those really good peanut M&M's... go with your gut and don't worry what the Jones think! ;)

Like pre packaged fruit roll ups? Sounds fine (but NO raisins - yuck!) - add a snack sized candy too. The other moms on the block sound like they have sticks up their behinds - you'd be my favorite mom, for sure!

yea fruit snacks are a smart idea i think its bad enough kids walk the streets at night and go to strangers doors asking for candy, so giving out a healthy alternitive snack is a good idea.

Fruit snacks are a great idea. My kids have received them before, although it is very rare. The moms will love you this year!

Around here apples are the favorite fruit to put pins and needles in. We do not let the children eat the apples until we are home and have checked them and then cut them up. I am sure some people just throw them away unfortunately.

It will be nice to give kids something other than chocolate. This way they can have something good to eat that is also good for them.

If you're going to pass out fruit snacks, why pass the 'middle man', so to speak? Be sure and give out the eggs and toilet paper as well. It'll save the lil brats a couple steps.
