Cedar Redwood and Teak are usually chosen for their aromatic and/or aesthetic quality.
It's 'MUST HAVE' kind of thing.
If you don't need to show it off to the Jones and want to save money. Use White Pine.
Just tell people that the Scandinavians invented saunas. And they used pine.

Redwood is commonly used, cedar would be a less expensive alternative. Teak, which is commonly used on ocean going yachts, would also work, but likely would cost quite a bit more than the redwood.

Cedar for it's hardness and durability, rich red appearance and most of all for it's aroma that other woods just can't emulate.
