Hello, Being a food Hygiene trainer - i can tell you that mould on food is not good. Not all mould is as you said Penicillin. (That is a cultivated type of mould) The problem with eating mould food and i'll keep it simple is that the mould can produce micro toxins which can lead to food poisoning.

NB. that said i have never heard of anyone getting food poisoning from slicing teh odd bit of mould of a bit of cheese or bread before eating it.

penicillin is a mould but not all mould is penicillin there are many more. You should be ok eating a small amount of contaminated food but would not recomend making a habit of this. Through all the food away when it becomes mouldy.

It depends on the food and on the mould. Mould is usually a type of fungus. Some are edible and some are poisonous (just like mushrooms). As a general rule, avoid mouldy food - unless it's a cheese that's supposed to be mouldy.

Food mould is pretty well harmless (though nasty tasting). Most of the time, food mould is penicillin, but I'm sure there are others but nothing hazardous.

You won't get hurt from eating a bit of mold on some food. As well, there are hundreds of other species of mold besides the fungi used in penicillan. The only reason people avoid food with mold on it is because it's usually a sign that its rotted and decaying....so if your stomach starts hurting, blame the quality of the food not the mold.

Most food molds are not terribly harmful. Under certain growth conditions molds can produce mycotoxins which can be very harmful. This is uncommon with food whihc has been stored a few days past the exp. date. Just to be safe, store food in a safe manner and you will be fine.

Penicillin is derived from a specific type of mold, one found on oranges, but most molds run the gamut from tasting disgusting to being lethal.

Wow there friend! Not all fungi are equal either, and most mushrooms will have a severe intoxication effect! So you´d better be careful because all moulds are not equal...
