If the bruise sits over swelling, then put a few cabbage leaves in the fridge for an hour (the tight, white cabbage is best) then put two or three leaves over the swelling. Keep them in place (e.g. a sock or tights on the leg or arms) Go to sleep on it and in the morning the swelling will be greatly reduced, as will the pain. Repeat a few times if necessary. Hope this helps.

If the bruise is new apply ice for anywhere from 24 to 72 hours. Keep ice on for 20 min at a time and remove for a hour or two. Like other people have said a bruise is when there is bleeding underneath the skin. Don't use steak as a cold compress could lead to an infection. Stick with ice or frozen vegetables in a secured bag.

Arnica cream or gel is excellent - it speeds up the process that bruises go through. So, basically, your bruise will get dark and turn yellow faster and will be totally gone very quickly. You can also get Arnica tablets in the homeopathy section of pharmacies: you just dissolve them on your tongue a couple of times a day. I took some before and after a big shoulder operation and the bruising was over and done with in a couple of days when doctors told me I would be bruised for at least a week!
Cold compresses also help to reduce swelling and discolouration.

There are plenty of old wives tales, but there's not a great deal you can do. Bruises are caused by blood trapped in or under the skin. The blood will disperse in time - how long depends on how much there is and how deep it is. Putting ice, steak or tincture of arnica on it will reduce the swelling but it won't make the colouring go away.

A good old fashioned epsom salt soak is all I know. It will help with pain, but I doubt that you can make a bruise go away any faster. Good Luck!

You can't really, apart from increasing vitamin C in your diet. This promotes body repair. bruises usually clear up in stages. The bigger the bruise, the longer it will take to clear. Don't worry though. It will go away.

Always have vegetables on side. Saute a big bag associated with frozen mixed vegetables in extra virgin olive oil and garlic. Add some red pepper or even turmeric for additional flavor and separate into portion-sized containers for your fridge.

Distracted dining is certain to get you in trouble. Avoid eating looking at a television or in a movie theater, as you're bound to consume more calories.
