Good question!

If you mean 50's style rock n roll then it has to be The Shadows. They had hits way into the swinging sixties and are still going today i think.

Also the Drifters are still going strong today, albeit with a different lineup.

There are good rock and roll bands being formed all the time. In my opinion (which is quite informed) the best of the current crop is a band called Good Rocking Tonight. The sound and feel is 100% authentic. You can download them on this web site : markkeeley.com

There never was a "Last rock n roll" band, all you have to do is look and It's still a genre that's still very much alive, take a look at the Metalheads, Goths, Rockers, Moshers, Emos that follow the music, Rock n Roll hasn't died out, its just a shame it doesn't get the air-time that it deserves. And the media is more concerned wit the chav music and celebrity "Lifestyle."

If you are referring to most newer rock. . .well, NOT ROCKING, you're mostly right. There are a few decent current rock bands. Audioslave (which is Chris Cornell from Soundgarden with the band from Rage Against The Machine, so of course they rock), Red Hot Chili Peppers (still rockin'), The White Stripes, Tool, Jet, Buck Cherry, Shinedown. . .there might be a few more. . .but like you, I'm more of a classic rock fan. Give me some Led Zeppelin or AC/DC any day!

Guns N Roises. Little more rock than roll I admit but their Use Your Illusion albums had Axl Rose playing plenty of Rock and Roll Piano, with plenty of funky (albeit heavy) guitar riffs.

As for Led Zep... they may have been one of the first (and bloody good too) but its a myth how good they were.
