Its called "jolly banter". I'm English and lived in Scotland for five years, and we were always having a little dig and a laugh and a joke about each others nationality. I was always making people laugh taking the mick out of "Cockney W*****s" and other English stereotypes, and laughed when my friends did too. I even took it on the chin during World Cup 98 and Euro 2000 when "jolly banter" sometimes became a bit more spiteful. Especially when a security guard at my work called me a "f*****g English c**t" (He was sacked soon afterwards, wonder why?) Unfortunately there are those on both sides who are bigoted, humourless, and have a big chip on their shoulder. I know hardly any English people who don't have recent Scottish ancestry, and most of the people I knew in Scotland had an English grandparent or great grandparent.I regularly travel there to see some of the people i met up there, who I consider to be among the best friends I have.

To say that english people are rude to scottish people is a bit of a sweeping statement - I am english and I am never rude to scottish people, particularly not to my scottish friends! Maybe a minority of english people are rude to scottish people but some scottish people are rude to english people - its an unfortunate flaw of human nature, there are rude people in all countries, not just England.

The Englishman I'm married to is a gentleman with great taste (he married me and stayed put in Scotland). Lots of other English people I know who live here are never rude, have great manners and could teach us a thing or two. Why don't you join the Polite Persons' Society?

I think everyone is misunderstood at one time or another. Englanders are not perfect and either are the Scottish. Everyone needs to get along.

Its ignorant and pointless to 'hate' someone just because they live on the other side of an imaginary line. And by the way, it takes two to tango.

Stop talking rubbish. If you lived in scotland as an Englishman you wouldn't say that - you have no idea what you are talking about.

Because hundreds of years ago, England kicked us out, because we would not adhere to their beliefs. I'm grateful for that. Because I wouldn't want to live in England and they don't have good hygiene when it comes to brushing their teeth. And the weather is gloomy. So, let them eat cake! lol....
