I thought Rummy, or another card game was the first computer game created.
Pong wasn't made for the computer at first.

The first computer game that I ever played was "The Great Cave", a strictly text game, where you found the hidden entrance to a cave and went down in it. You could find different treasure hoards, and also knives and other things to fight off elves and things that were trying to kill you. There were many rooms and many levels in the cave; i never did figure it all out.
There have many similar graphic games since then; but this was strictly a text game. It was on our DEC (Digital Electronics Company) PDP-11/34 mini-computer in the late 1960's. I wish I had a copy of it now for my lap top. It was a thinking - strategy game; no reaction time required, but you need to plan or you got killed and had to start over.

the first recognised computer game was a "Tic Tac Toe" program in 1952...
Quote:
" In 1952, A.S. Douglas wrote his PhD degree at the University of Cambridge on Human-Computer interraction. Douglas created the first graphical computer game - a version of Tic-Tac-Toe. The game was programmed on a EDSAC vaccuum-tube computer, which had a cathode ray tube display."
Space War was the first commercial Video Game (didn't sell well as people found the control scheme too complex... guess 5 buttons were too much for people back then)
Pong was the first successful video game.

Noughts and Crosses, or as the Americans call it, Tic Tac Toe.
When asked this question, people normally answer with Pong, but that was really the first graphical game.
Noughts and crosses existed as a cmputer game before it in purely text format.

I think it was Pong. The tennis game. It was quite basic actually. black and white, straight lines and dot for the ball. I remember when my friend was the first one I knew to get one. It was developed in the mid to early 70's.

I don't know if it was the first one ever created, but I believe it was the first one sold mainstream - PONG.
