Limewire itself isn't the problem; its that people share infected files. You need a good firewall, anti virus and anti trojan; and you need to get Windows to show file extensions.
Open My Docs and click Tools -Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
In the long list, untick 'hide extensions for known file types'.
OK then changes.
From then on you should be able to see 'image.jpg' or 'music.mp3'. Jpg and MP3 are the file extensions. A jpg is a picture, mp3 is music.
But 'music.mp3.exe' is not a music file; it i an executable program. With the file extension hidden you wouldn't know that clicking it will run a program.
And sadly some people are spiteful enough to offer to share their trojans and viruses with you and pretend they're music.
You need to install one firewall.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Both these firewalls are free for personal use and stop unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic.

Instal both these web browsers, turn off javascript on one and use that browser for vising unknown websites. They don't support Active X so thats one less way for problems to get on your pc.
You need to install one anti virus;

No, Limewire is not safe from viruses, spyware, or trojans. It is not safe at all. You are downloading programs and files onto your computer that may have malicious code in it.
You are also opening up your computer to allow other people access to your computer. Anytime you open your computer to others on the Internet you are asking for trouble.

Some of the program files which you might download from limewire do contain viruses. Make sure you have a good anti virus program such as AVG antivirus installed

It depends how you define 'safe, free from viruses and spyware'.
The Limire client, to the best of my knowledge, is.
The files you can download on it can be riddled with anything - they're just whatever anyone else has decided to share - there is no regulation/censorship of the content.

agree with those that have said no. its very easy to get a virus from filing sharing just make sure you have a good anti virus. like AVG and it is best to have a backup anti virus as not all can be detected. no matter what one you use. AVG and pc-cillin do the job or you can use on line scanner. just to be sure.

I don't seem to have problems with their music, but just about every file I've tried to d/load has caused my anti-virus to jump in, warning me of a virus threat, so just keep an eye on it. Just keep your anti-virus up to date and run it, along with things like reg cure or other such things for keeping the computer happy.
