If it is a joke, pick the funiest answer or one that has some merit.
Other questions, just pick out the best answer that is relivent to the question, or maybe the most original answer to the question.
You can go down the list of answers and give thumbs up or down to help you decide. Mark the thumbs up for good answers, even if you choose a better answer.
You can view the profiles, if you think that this may help you decide. You will find some people that are only here to earn points and never ask questions, and others that actually ask questions, too.

For questions that i really need help : i pick the most informative one, the one with most detail
For questions that has no wrong or right answer : i either pick the one that i relate to the most or the one that makes me laugh

I choose personally if there are onlt a few answers like 5 -10. If I get a bunch of answers like 20-40 I put it up to vote.

some tips; dont pick answers that u want to hear but rather the ones that speak the truth altough it may be hurtful.. just curious on how u are going to pick a best asnwer for this question.. all the best :-)

I would always pick the one t hat most clearly addressed and answered my question, especially if it appeared to be backed by personal experience. If my question called for one of those "personal opinion" type answers, I would choose the one that stood out for intelligence, wittiness, or clever.

If I get a lot of really good answers, I ask my best friend for help choosing the best one, and I do the same for him :)

well, first i go through and give a thumbs down to all the ones i don't like, that way i don't have to look at them anymore
then i pick whichever gives the best information... or whichever makes me laugh the most
