Don't discount the Chargers as a potential S.B. candidate. Their points for and against are the closest to the Bears as anyone in the NFL. The Bears against the 49ers should be a walk in the park for the Bears. They are really a team with few weaknesses, whereas the Colts couldn't do it without Manning.
In football, the only #1 spot is super bowl winner, everything that happens before that is anti climatic, hell we've seen wild card teams go for the gold, and get it.
Also in football, the old adage is true about any team can beat any other team, on any given day. With the right breaks, the worst team in the league can beat the best team in the league, and we have seen it happen. This is especially true when the whole franchise is the quarterback, if he's having a bad day the whole team is having a bad day
That brings me back to the Bears. Even when their no name quarterback was getting chased around and tossed around by the Cardinal defense, the Bears defense was scoring all the points. Now that's a balanced team!

Being that Boise State plays in a mediocre conference (WAC) and had a very mediocre non-conference schedule (Oregon State, Wyoming, Utah and 1-AA Sacramento State), I don't think under the current system that they would ever be considered national champions. Most of the teams in the BCS would be undefeated as well if they got to play the schedule Boise did. Boise played only 5 teams that made it to a bowl game (Oregon State, Hawaii, Utah, San Jose State and Nevada), which isn't exactly a murderer's row. "Good" teams, yeah, but the only "great" team Boise beat all year was Oklahoma. And even though I like to pimp the WAC as much as possible (Nevada is my alma mater), realistically, the WAC is not going to win a football title in the BCS era unless Boise was to go 12-0 AND every other school had at least two losses (which isn't likely to happen). However, if there was a playoff in place, where conference winners were seeded like they do with the NCAA basketball tournament, then I think Boise would have as good a chance as any team to win the tournament. to TheOnlyBeldin - I doubt Duke would have won more than two or three games in the WAC. While there are a few horrible teams (Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, Utah State) and a couple below-average ones (Fresno State, Idaho), at the top it's not bad. San Jose State and Hawaii both won their bowl games, and Nevada almost beat five-time champion Miami. Just because a team (like Duke) is horrible in a BCS conference doesn't mean they'll do any better in a non-BCS conference.

Even if the Bears win and the Colts lose I still wouldnt place the Bears as the best in the league.
Look who they have beaten and look who they have almost lost too. I dont think just because a team starts out 7-0 against weak teams that makes them the best in the NFL.
I would place 4 or 5 teams ahead of them as far as being better than they are. Their defense is keeping them in it but (without looking it up) I cant think of any really good, strong offensive teams they have played.
Colts are still very very strong offensively but all it takes is one bad manning day and they lose.
I think the bears will lose 3 games total this year and the colts will lose 4.

First off....I think they both will win. However...a Colts win would be way more impressive than a Bear win. The Bears are in a no-win situation today (in the eyes of fans rating them) since they are expected to totally dominate the Niners. Anything less than total domination will just add fuel to the fire for the fans who say the Bears are not as good as their record indicates. The Colts could actually walk away from today with a loss and still gain stature in our eyes simply because their opponent is a much tougher team than the Niners and they are playing on the road. A close..hard fought loss can still be impressive.

Indy has a much better chance to lose today at Denver.
Someone needs to walk into the locker room and kill all of the Bears for the Niners to come within 2 TDs of them today.

If one of them is going to lose this week, it will be Indianapolis, but I suspect they'll both be 7-0 at the end of the day.
