Yes, the man should be the protector of women and most every woman needs to feel protected. Whether it is in the Quoran or not, it is in the bible, that this is the case - man is to protect the woman and apparently he gave man more strength, physically (i.e., Adam to toil the land, etc.) for a specific reason. It doesn't mean that men are stronger than women in the whole sense of the word - some are and some aren't. Just as some women are a lot smarter than some men.
So, it really isn't fair to say that Islam is sexist just because they have not caught up with the women's liberation as the U.S. has.
My husband is Muslim and he treats me respectfully and with the love, as he should - this comes from the Quoran as it does the bible.

Guys are always the heros in the movies! hahah look at, say, even Mario where you have to save the princess or whenever someone breaks into the house, who is supposed to check who it is? THE GUY! duhh! don't even lie about it. That doesn't mean ALL women can't maintain themselves; but if she can't or if the couple disagree, by default the man has the responsibility.

Men have been created to have more physicall strength than woman but not mentally. That depends on the unique individual this is has been made clear by the book of allah

Unfortunately they often don't. Which is why women have had to step into the breach and take care of themselves.
We don't need brute strength much anymore. We need brains, determination and courage. And women are equal to men in that department.
