Such a law will never benefit a society, especially the spiritual integrity of such a society. The impetus to carry a gun is born out of fear, vengefulness and politics. These vices should have no place in a house of God. If you fear the houses of God to be haven for criminal activity and violence, ratchet up security in and around these houses of worship. Don’t turn places of spiritual sustenance and refuge into places resembling the old west were everyone is a vigilante. After all, it was Jesus who told Peter to put the dagger down when people came to execute him. Would he really approve of people bringing guns into places where he is the center of attention? I wonder if this is a question that “conservative Christians” ever bother asking themselves. Maybe it is too much to ask.

My personal opinion is that when more responsible people are armed we are generally safer as a society. Sad but, I think, true. Church should be a place of worship, but there have been examples of violence and hostage taking in church which might have been prevented by a responsible citizen who was armed at the time.
