Intel is currently on top. AMD still has some great processors.
I recently built a computer for my brother, and used the Intel 1.86Ghz Core 2 Duo, and overclocked it to 2.4Ghz. That thing is insane. I'm very impressed for only $180+ at NewEgg.com

I'm sure AMD won't let Intel wear the crown for long though.

AMD for the past two years or so has dominated the processor market. These days it's mostly neck and neck. Unless you're spending $800+ on just a single processor, the performance difference between an AMD/Intel processor of the same price is pretty marginal, maybe 2%-5%, not quite all that significant. Wait untill the quad core processors by Intel come out, then it will be really interesting to see how AMD reacts and the market changes. No matter what, this is an exciting period for computer gaming.

AMD was better for a while but I think intel is back on top with the Core 2 Duo. I currently have a socket 939 AMD, but I think the next system I build will be intel unless AMD can really get their act together soon.

Yes, lunatic is right.
AMD for gaming
Intel for business.
But critics say AMD is better than Intel, and that AMD has overcome Intel. and AMD is cheaper i think. I will go with AMD.
