Fletcher traded Gilmour to the New Jersey Devils in 1997. the Devils paid theirs by sending defenseman Jason Smith, right winger Steve Sullivan and junior forward Alyn McCauley (Ottawa 67's) to Toronto for Gilmour and Ellett. The Maple Leafs also received a conditional third or fourth-round draft pick they had previously traded to the Devils.
In the summer of 1998 Gilmour signed as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago was Toronto's opposition on the night of the last game in historic Maple Leaf Gardens.

The Sabres acquired the 36-year-old center from the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Michal Grosek, who last month expressed his displeasure at being benched by coach Lindy Ruff. he was with the NJ Devils before the Blackhawks. then in 2001 he was picked up through free agency by the Montreal Canadiens.

and for the other thing its cool.
