I don't really understand why the republicans covered up and aided this creep in his actions against children working at the Capital.
Was it purely political, and if so what does that say about the gop?

For the same reason that the Catholic Church does. To save its own reputation and a**. People won't respect your organization if they know that you condone (or possibly are part of) pedophilia or any other sexual deviation. If people don't respect you than they won't give you their money. We all know that money is what makes certain groups go round. Also, ever notice that when one of them SOB's are caught they usually blame someone for abusing them like that in the past? If someone hurt you why in the world would you hurt another innocent person in the same way? Sounds to me like they are a bunch of sick f***s who should all be castrated.

Okay. Let's deal with this head-on. In Washington, DC, our nation's capital, it is perfectly legal to have sex with anyone who is 16 years of age. One-Six! Have all the sex you want, The law can't touch you. IT'S NOT AGAINST THE LAW! These pages were all over 16. What is it about this that people don't understand? And Foley didn't have sex with any of them. Did he? Just a few racy emails, which if they had been written by Bill Clinton, (yes, he likes boys too) would have been ignored. Big deal. Everybody knew that Foley was queer, same as Kolbe and a few others. I get the impression that the kids were put up to it by Clinton's War Room people, and this had been simmering on the back burner waiting until just before the election to get revealed. But somebody leaked it too soon. So the GOP has had time to counter. Prediction: GOP holds both houses.

nothing was covered up. That is a left wing lie, trying to make the gop look bad.

The same email that some members of the gop read, were given to ABC news. ABC did not think it was news worthy either.

Noone read the instant messages, which were sexually explicit, until they were released to the public. The emails, were nothing more than 'friendly', such as asking, "what are you hoping to get for your birthday?"

It is more likely that they democrats knew about foley before anyone else, and yet kept it quiet until election time. Why would the democrats do that? Purely for political gain, and not worried about the children? What does that say about the democrats?

It was political.
The republican party has done a very good job for 6 years of putting up a united political front, something which is important if you intended to introduce as many changes as the current administration has.
In consequence, it means that some things get swept under the rug for the greater good...in order to forward the agenda.
Now, cracks are appearing, and whenever that happens the leaks start growing quicker and quicker. That's why the past 6 or 7 months have been so brutal on the republicans. They are losing their ability to stage-manage the press and keep such atrocities out of the news.

Republicans as a whole didn't do anything.

Foley, as a single human being, did a unlawful act. A perverted one, at that. If it turns out people were covering it up it has little to do with the entire party. The GOP has been having a lot of scandals going on lately but I think it's important we remember that unless the scandal directly affected the party, that it was something illegal that that ONE PERSON did. The whole party shouldn't pay for one man's mistakes.

There are NO children working at the Capital! If any Republican turned a blind eye to Foley's UNETHICAL behavior, it was for the same reasons the ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC PARTY protected Clinton's ILLEGAL sexual and financial criminal acts...to save the party from embarrassment over the actions of a single miscreant.

This scandal is simply one more example of an administration that seems to encourage corruption and secrecy. It smells as bad as it does not just because of the subject (which is, of course, disgusting), but because it shows that certain people have been so arrogant as to apparently believe that they are above reproach, above the law, sort of an administration-wide narcississtic personality disorder - "the rules don't apply to me" mentality. It translates to, "We don't care what it takes to maintain our position of power, even if it means looking the other way when something really, really wrong is going on".

This quest to maintain power is what has eroded politics on both sides of the aisle. We as voters have to ask, why are we willing to tolerate this? Take something simple - if you go to a restaurant because you have been told by your peers that it is wonderful, but when you eat there, you get food poisoning, are you gonna go back and eat there time and time again, simply because your peers keep saying it's wonderful? HELL NO! The point is, why would we as a people continue to vote for politicians who clearly aren't doing their job? Their party affiliation is totally secondary to this issue.

Our only recourse as a people is to vote out every single incumbant, regardless of party, because the people who are there have had their chance to get it right, and haven't. This, to me, is a no-brainer.
