I want to buy a new Blackberry pearl phone, but am on contract for the next year with Orange, who don't offer it. If I buy it off ebay/somewhere similar, and have it unlocked will I lose certain functions or the phone or will it work as normal?

You will have to get the Orange settings for Internet and Multimedia Messaging, otherwise they will not work on the device and will still be set for the original carrier. You can contact them, but they dont have to give them to you. But you can go to their website under Phone/Device support and it will list the settings and how to enter them.

You shouldn't....so long as you actually get the phone unlocked from the network in a legit manner..ie you ring up and pay for the unlocking code.

If you take it to a dodgy market stool they normally 'unlock' your phone....by actually writing over it with a 3rd party bios and/or operating system. In this case the phone may lose or may gain a few things it should/n't have.

I have a mate who bought a stolen sony k800i and when he had it unlocked...they'd used the wrong software..the phone was reprogrammed as a w800i..almost but not quite the same !

Good luck.

Hi, if you plan to purchase Sim free then it should not be unlocked, as it was never locked to a network in the first place, therefore all functions will be as a new phone, try to confirm with vendor if it is unlocked or Sim free

particular an unlocked telephone can take any sim card and vice versa unlocked telephones are a hundred% felony locking them is merely a thank you to maintain clientele unswerving yet factorys make unlocked telephones and deliver them to merchants that dont furnish centers.

Possibly, but it will only be things that are specific services to the network that you had the contract with, all the phones standard features will be exactly the same.

my boss had his blackberry unlocked, and so far has not complained of any loss in functionality. so i guess in your case, all functions will still be present after unlocking it.
