No, Maria Sharapova does not have enough points to take over as the world No.1 just yet. Amelia Mauresmo will hold her top ranking still. So it should be an interesting season ending tournament at Madrid this year where the current top 8 players in the world will battle it out to see who can become the World Champion of 2006 season ending. Mauresmo won it last year but can she get her form back in time this year or will Sharapova prevail and take the No.1 ranking from her. Can't wait!!!!

In order to end the year at the top spot she has to win the tour championships in Madrid and hope that Henin-Hardenne will not reach the finals of the tournament. For Mauresmo to end the year at no.1 she has to win the tour championships and hope that Henin-Hardenne will finish last in her round robin group. So at the end of this season we will likely see Henin's name as no.1 but who knows Sharapova might just make it.
