To run RAID, you must have a minimum of 2 hard drives, for RAID 0, and up to 8 hard drives in for other configurations. Most people use SATA drives, but it can be done with IDE. For RAID 0, the drives must be the same size and speed (same brand is better, but not absolutely required). If you motherboard supports RAID natively, you can install your drives, and configure them through a BIOS RAID menu, then install windows. You must set up the RAID array BEFORE installing Windows. If your motherboard does not support RAID natively. you must copy the RAID drivers to a floppy disk, then tell Windows to copy them during installation. After that, its good to have a RAID configuration/monitoring program. Then just sit back and enjoy your added performance and/or data protection. If your search for "RAID guide" or similar, there are many useful suides to be found out on the internet.

You need two hard drives minimum for a RAID.
