Both - Like a battery, you can't have a positive without a negative.
I personally, would like to believe that the positive out ways the negative though.

Increased technology, no doubt, has benefitted everyone around the world. In some countries, technology is fundamentally what people live off of. While in other countries, technology is slowing giving that location a slight lift, depending how well they've embraced it. For example, in northeast Africa, thought there are many taxis that have taken over the road and a few private cars, you still see the old donkey trudging around carrying goods and you wonder why that family did not invest in a nice truck. Though technology has been embraced in that country (i.e., cell phones, internet cafes, etc.), the citizens do not all have personal computers, dishwashers, central air conditioning or heating in their homes. For them, a slow drive down technology lane is suitable.
While they catch up with the rest of the world, we here in the U.S. embrace it like a warm and cuddly teddy bear. If you watched the market for the PDA, you will notice that after five years, it has slowly sank into the horizon while mobile and smartphones are the latest craze. We are making everything versatile and keeping it compact - for the superusers of the world.
I would say that the effectgs of tehcnology on society are mixed depending on where you live. You could live in a country longing for high speed internet or a city that hasn't the means for cable television. Either way, your feelings would be different.
Personally, I love it! When I think about what my parents did not have for convenience sake: dishwasher, DVD player, cable television, computers in the home, a cell phone, etc. I don't know what I would do without it. Can you imagine having to handwash a pair of your husband's jeans all of the time? Ugh! :)

Being dependant on the tech, especially society born into the techno world when its all they know and technology is surperior they will be slaves to the machines, another grim thought is humans will not be 100 percent organic with tech replacing body parts we will eventually be part drone like the ones in the sky that get shot down ( ufo's) is that a negative effect ? Technology taking over is my answer I guess.

Responsible technology is definitely a benefit to society. Airplanes take us around the world in hours, telephones and television helps us see and hear events as they happen and medical technology has cured many diseases and allowed people to live longer than ever before in history. Flip side of that is the nuclear bomb, CO2 emmissions and lead paint and the M-16.
Like anything else, technology is just the tool. If man wants to use it for good, it's awesome. If man wants to use it for evil, it's terrible.

Some of each. Technology has allowed great improvement in medical care potential. On the other hand, people mistake technology for science and the result is a great deal of very bad research, as well as people becomming dependent on technology.

I would say both. I guess positive in the way of people are able to expand on knowledge easier and explore the world. Negative in that there have been several addicitions to arise to technology. i.e. gaming, role-play

I think there are probably two schools of thought on this. Robert Putnam's book "Bowling Alone" shows a trend toward society becoming more individualistic; withdrawing from doing social activities with neighbors for instance. However, the internet has allowed us to communicate on a global level, with people who we probably never would have had any contact with (i.e., I probablly never would have talked to you!).
