I have a small predicament, and as much advice as you can give me on the subject would be appreciated.
So I'm a 13 yr old girl in 8th grade, and naturally I like clothes and want alot. But I feel bad/akward asking my mom to take me shopping, or for money for clothes. So I save up my allowance, and the odd money I get babysitting and buy some. But there isn't much you can buy with $5-$10 a week, and I feel cheap when I buy clothes from cheap places like Target or discount places like TJ Maxx. I go to an all girl's private school, and most of the people there spend about $200 a week on clothes. I don't want to do that, and probably would piss my parents off very much (they acn afford to spend $30,000 a year on education for me, but we're not as well of as most of the girls who go there), but I would like to get more clothes than the small amount of shopping I do (like 5 bottoms and 5 tops twice a year). What should I do?

I realize that I sound horrible and shallow, but I'm not that much. And at least I realize it. But how should I approach my mom and ask?

God, no. I don't want to wear all the lacoste and juicy and seven jeans and uggs and lilly and jcrew and stuff that they wear. First of all, that isn't me, and if I wore that stuff to school my friends would laugh and ask me what I was doing (not in a mean way, but we often mock several of the preppy girls), Plus, I'm not a prep at all. However, I would like to wear good/nice non-preppy clothes.

Ask her if she will match you for clothes. Example: You get $30, and she gives you $30 to go clothes shopping. She will be impressed that at such a young age you are trying to take responsibility and at least help buy your own clothes. It's fall. Do you live in an area with elderly people? Offer to rake their yards for money. When it snows, offer to dig out their driveways for them. My grandma so appreciated this when she was alive. My grandpa is paralyzed, and she had asthma, so it was virtually impossible for her to take care of the yard. She often paid the kids who came around to do it twice what they asked for. Good luck.

i went to a private school for 3 years my brother went for about 6 years...there were times i felt less of a person because i couldnt afford the things they could...but what some of those who were spending all that money didn't have was a mother who was willing to give ne thing for her daughter to be happy...clothes do not make a person...sweety u should ask if thats what u want but not because u think u have to keep up with those who are a little more wealthier than u...and u shouldn't feel bad...u r a kid...hold on to that innocence...your worries are school and fun...not how much money your mom spends

Trust me you are not cheap by wanting to spend less on clothes. You are smart. The sooner you realize in life that it is not the label that make the person but the charter. By the way check thrift stores they actually get a lot of new clothing that people donate. It does not hurt to look and besides who would know that you bought something second hand.
Good luck to you and remember money and possessions are not what is important in life

Just ask her,, tell her your willing to take the time to get the best deal,, seek sales and such,, and never buy on a whim. You can also hit the Thrift stores and create your own retro look. No one says it has to be high dollar merchandise. Broaden your shopping places.. Just remember sometimes the big department stores have some really good deals that are not too expensive.. Just shop wisely.

Well since your 13 and still growing maybe your mom just doesnt want to spend money on things that your going to grow out of. But maybe try asking to go shopping for one new outfit at a store you like. Then ask for new clothes for Christmas. And tell her which stores are your favorite.

My mom never bought me clothes that weren't on discount and she taught me a valuable life lesson, it doesn't matter what you were, it's who you really are. I never fit in to what the girls were wearing because I didn't want anyone to see my underwear, chest, or stomach. I not fat, but it's uncomfortable. Just ask your mom to help you out with getting some clothes that are necessary to have. who cares what you wear, don't try to fit in, you are different.

i am surprised you don't have to wear uniforms, anyways, just ask her, most likely she will say no and you will continue buying clothes yourself.
