Be careful if people recommend the nose syringe. Do it very gently or you can hurt your baby. Ask your doctor what to do. For whoever gave me the thumbs down, it happened to someone I know. So it is true.

You should use a nasal syringe. To do this squeeze the bulb part, place in nose towards the outer wall of the nose and release gently. Repeat on the other side.
Keep in mind it may be a cold but could also be an allergic reaction. At 5 days old I would ask a doctor to look at her.
IF she develops a fever, or breather patterns change take her to an emergency room.

little noses saline solution. You can also run a hot shower and get the bathroom nice and steamy...then stand in there with your baby...the steam will help clear her up. But, really saline solution is awesome. She won't choke...but she might cry and gag. I always had my husband do it so then I could console my babies :)

you should have an asperator in the stuff that you got from the hospital. It's a blue thing that has a squeezy thing at the end of it. You need to squeeze the ball firmly, gently place it in the baby's nostril, then let go of the ball to gently suck out the mucus. If you cant do this then you need to have someone do it for you that knows how. if the baby doesnt get better by tomorrow I would take her to the doctor in the morning. newborns are more prone to getting infections because they havent built up their immune system yet.

Just give her a warm bath in a closed bathroom. It should help break it up and make it more runny. You can put a pillow under her mattress in the crib to elevate her so it helps the sinuses drain. Cold mist humidifiers also help keep the mucus more runny.
Remember to allow the baby to 'dry out' after waking up, all that moisture is not good all the time.

That thing that sucks out the mucus from the nose. it looks like a hot air balloon with a narrow funnel at the end. U suck the mucus right out. Also..sleeping with a humidifier helps..put some Vicks on the humidifier n it helps with the stuffy nose.

Pick up a squeeze bulb at the drug store. Ask the pharmacist for help with how to use it and how to use the saline solution. The hospital should have told you how to use it, and should have given you the one they used on your baby.

To remove mucus, you have to use a tool they sell at the drug store (don't know name of it) It is a rubber blub with a plastic tip with a hole. You suction the mucus out.
I use saline spray myself. Spray then suction. Place the baby on it's stomach to keep from it draining back down the throat. Probably across your lap. The pediatrician's office is available to answer questions for about caring for your child. Call them when you have questions about your child's health.

DO NOT use vapor rub!!! You can literally burn a babies skin useing that!!! The only thing you can really do is use the bulb syringe sucker the give you in the hospital, or you can buy one. Also if she/he is all stuffed up, you can run a hot shower and sit in the bathroom with the baby (door closed). The steam helps break it up.
