I have a candle in a wide glass (from IKEA) and it's burnt about as much as it can. What's the best way of getting that last cm or so of wax out so that I can use the glass for something else, or at least recycle it without the gunk on the bottom?

Thanks.

Put the glass in the freezer overnight. In the morning you can pop the wax right out in one hard chunk and toss it.

If there's a big enough hunk of wax, I'd go with the freezer method -- if it's a little bit, I'd try the very hot water method.

A tip so that won't happen again: put a little salt in the bottom of the glass before you put the candle in there. The salt will prevent the wax from attaching to the glass.

If it will withstand heat, put a small amount of water in a saucepan and put the candle holder inside. turn the burner on to med low and wait for the wax to melt. When it has pour the wax aout and imediately wash in very hot soapy water. Wax is gone!

You can also melt it in the microwave if your glass holder is microwave safe. I would not try this on crystal, use the stove top method for that!

Fill the container 2/3 with water. Microwave long enough for the water to melt the wax. Depending on the container, either pour it off, or wait for it to cool first. Wax floats!

put the glass in the freezer. I know, sounds strange, but when the wax gets that cold, it will usually just pop out of the glass container easily. (After freezing, I just use a butter knife at one edge to cause it to pop out.)

If the glass is very heavy you can put it in the microwave for just about 1minute, when the wax starts to melt it will slide right out.

fill a sink with hot water, sit the glass in the water and let the wax get soft, not melted, then you should be able to sitck your finger in and scoop it out.
