Probably varnish build up in the carburetor! Gas will varnish if it sits for more than 6 months. As mentioned earlier, it doesn't take much to clog a jet in any carburetor, which will alter the fuel delivery. One way to test for fuel delivery is to take the spark plug out, spray some brake cleaner directly in the cylinder, put the spark plug back in, and try to start. If it runs for a short time, you probably have a fuel delivery (carburetor) problem. The engine will probably only run for a very short time until the brake clean is burned off.

If the engine doesn't run while false fueling (described above), check for spark. I know you said that you put a new plug in, but you could have a boad coil. Chances are that you have spark, and the false fueling should work in pointing you to cleaning the carburetor!

Hope this helps!

Sitting over the summer may have allowed some moisture into the carb bowl or diaphram. It takes very little to clog a jet on a small engine. I run a shipping tag wire down through the jets.

drain the fuel, & check gasketts, jets, seals. had same problem with a tiller. it's 1 of those things. gasketts get dried out over seasons. good luck!

If you didn't put a gas stabilizer when you stored it you probably gummed up the fuel bowl
