That's a good idea, to write about how sex sells, that's the reason for the young people being oversexed.
All the adds, songs, videos, tv shows, and movies explode as much as they can the sex. I am not sure if the media reflects what happens in life, of if the media provoques changes in the society. Maybe is a little bit of both.
I mean, is true that sex have become a more common subject in any people conversations, that's not a taboo subject any more.
All the people, at least in modern citties in occidental countries, are living their sexuality with more knowledge, maturity and freedom. So, i guess, that's being reflected by media.
But at the same time, the media is masive, and it's hard to take our kids and teenagers apart from all that . So, they start listening, looking, knowing about sex from so early ages. i guess that contribute for them to be more curious, to experiment sooner.
I really believe that media should become more concious, and don't live it only to the parents to handdle with this, wich is almost imposible to do.

You're right, sex does sell. But I know the commercial that you're referring to, which is under the idea that sex sells.

I think we are oversexed. Teens are almost expected to lose their virginity in high school. The ones that don't, are considered rare. I think we forget that casual sex is what keeps venereal diseases going. That if each person cared more about their own bodies than pleasure, VD would be a thing of the past. I think the media shows sex as such a wonderful, normal thing between two people, or more in some cases, but don't mention that casual sex is not all that it can be. When you have had sex with someone who you are truly in love with, and who truly loves you in return, you begin to wonder why you wasted so much of your time on casual sex. Casual sex is selfish sex where you only care about the pleasure you are receiving. Sex within a loving, committed relationship is more intense and more focused on the pleasure that you are giving the other person.

Sex in commercials has gotten out of control almost. I have had to explain much more to my sons who are 6 and 8 than I wanted to at this age. There is a commercial for a herpes medication that simply appales me. Instead of showing the horrors of the disease, they simple show, that if you take this medication, you can continue on a normal life, including a normal sex life. In fact, they show people rock climbing and bicycle riding instead of warning people of the pain that herpes causes. It shows people becoming almost intimate, but doesn't really warn the fact that they can and probably will pass on this disease.

I think the idea for your essay, which ever one you decide on, is a great one.

Good luck and hope you get an A!!!!

It's the sexual revolution, it is constantly adapting to new and existing ideas. I am in a Graphic Design program, and we talk regularly on the impact of "sex sells". It does, but you have to have an understanding of the limit.

As for directly affecting the youth of today, I was developing right in the middle of it as a teenager. But, I had a threshold for it, I knew what was right or wrong, and understood that sex is an innate part of life. I was not "in" to multiple partners, and dressing, for lack of better words, as a "whore".

The ad itself, if run during the day or after school does influence that behavior. But almost everything we see in advertising and pop culture is all about sex now. Teenagers choices on clothes, music, and movies is all influenced on the sexual revolution. It is inevitable that many are to think like this. But hopefully and eventually, many will have their own opinions on it, not just influenced by the media.

Sex has always been an overpowering urg... but today it is being forced upon even the very youngest... look back to that girl who was murrdered, Jon Benette Ramsy. A 5 yr old made to look and act twenty... children are exposed to overt sexual behavior every where... just walk any mall... My 4 yr old granddaughter is acting out in sexual ways beause she sees it in commercials on tv and even in so-called childrens videos... she laid a big sloppy kiss on me the other day because she saw some doing it ... both her mother and I were shocked to say the least... I hae always had her peck my cheek...but when she ran to me and i picked her up she grabed me aroung the head and did exactly what she had seen done... her parents have been careful in her tv but it is even on the Disny channel...
