My son is 4 months today, in a few weeks we're going to be flying to CA to visit my parents but the thing is that my son started to recognize faces and if he sees strangers he wouldn't stop crying untill we're in a quiet place were its just the two of us and daddy... but that's impossible in an airport and the plane.... does anone have any suggestions on what i could do to keep him from crying so much on the plane???? leaving him behind is not an option!!

Can you start trying to desensitize him in the next couple of weeks? Maybe have people over to your house that are willing to sit quietly while you nurse or feed him, take him out in his stroller to a relatively quiet place like the park during the weekday, then build up to noisier places like the mall, park on weekend, etc. If he uses a comfort device like a blanket or pacifier, keep it around at all times. Probably most important is for you to stay calm, if he can sense your frustration, he'll be more likely to be upset. Besides our kids always sound the noisiest to us.

On a practical note, find out the plane's seat configuration and if it's only two on the window side, request that for you and your husband. You can create your own little comfort zone for your son. Place a thin blanket over his carseat handle so that he is in a little cocoon, or tuck him between you and the window so he can't see as many people.

Good luck and safe journeys!

I had to take a six week old on a long trip for a funeral. Try and make sure your son is hungry as you get on the plane - give him the bottle as you go up - it helps with the ear pressure for him to have the sucking action. After done eating maybe he'll just go to sleep. It's difficult but you can't help it if it is hard on him. Have his toys at the ready. A good thing is that he won't see alot but fronts and backs of seats ahead of him. And he may outgrow the fear of new faces by then. They go thru those stages so fast. Good luck to you!!

When youre waiting at the airport... some of them have like--- lady "break rooms"... but its juss a bunch of seats and usually no one is in there. You can ask for some place you can go to, to nurse ur baby (wether u do or not ;-) ) and theyll sometimes give u somewhere... I dunno where at in cali ur going... i kno at the LA airport (LAX) i was given a place... so yeah, lol.

just cover him up so he can't see anybody, get toys that connect to his carseat, and make him not have any naps until you get on that plane.
