Be surprised how many people cannot solve simple problems nor follow simple instruction. So by using tools like word problems you can further evaluate someones capability in understanding materials

Problems aren't important to any workplace, but if you are trying to learn the skills necessary for business there are only a couple ways to learn them, and word problems are one of them.

Don't look for an easy way out. If you want to be successful, you have to work at it. If you want to learn, you have to study... and do your homework.
