I'd say throw yourself and your luggage on the Eurostar and take the chunnel. Christmas is no time to be flying with all the long lineups and headaches with security. If you're not a backpacker type tourist, I'm assuming you're more likely to spring for a private hotel room. Once you have a room, it doesn't really matter how much you've brought with you. Take a cab from the train station so you're not fumbling with your bags on the metro.

When you're settled in and ready to hit the town, I'm not sure where to even begin with places to go in Paris. The Champs Elysees is a given and if you've never been, a trip up the top of the Eiffel Tower is a must --if for no other reason than to just say you've been to the top. If you're into photography, Paris is a glittering city by night even in the off season. I've never been there around Christmas but I hear its quite something. I also really liked the new downtown out in the suburbs and exploring some of the parks out by Sacre Coeur. Maybe catch a show at one of the theatres and if you've got some extra dough to through around, check out the Moulin Rouge.

Have a great trip.

I'm french and the best would be the train through the Eurostar
In Paris at Xmas, it is really great, you should go to the Champs Elysées because it will be decorated for Xmas. But don't forget the Avenue de Rivoli or the Grands Magasins near the famous museum : le Louvre !
If you want to drink sth, you should go to the area St Michel where you can find a lot of restaurants or pubs !

Have a nice trip !

Even with luggage, I'd be tempted to try to take the train - London to Paris, through the tunnel !
